On June 6, 2012 at the 38th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Austin, Texas, the crystalline silicon branch of the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (c-Si U.S. PVMC) met with various representatives from standards development organizations (SEMI, IEC, ASTM, UL) and standards affiliated organizations (Solar ABCs, NREL QATF), as well as national labs (NREL, Sandia), universities (UCF, ASU), and members of the PV industry (Spire, Sinton Instruments, Tau Science, MKS Instruments, Jordan Valley Semiconductors, NTV).
The primary goals of the meeting were first for the c-Si U.S. PVMC to formally introduce itself to the standards development organizations (SDO) and standards affiliated organizations (SAO), and then to identify the most effective ways for the c-Si U.S. PVMC to interact with these organizations. Among key topics discussed were current activities, challenges and potential gaps in standards along with proposed solutions, and the c-Si U.S. PVMC involvement with SDOs and SAOs. Additionally, it should be noted that the c-Si U.S. PVMC is not, and doesn’t intend to be a SDO itself, but rather a SAO that supports and complements existing SDO and SAO activities.
